What do you do when you don't know what to do?

"This doesn't make any sense." "I don't understand any of it." "I don't know what to do."
At one time or another, everyone feels frustrated--particularly in math, where there is usually one right answer and a specific way to get that answer.
The ability to overcome difficulty is the greatest predictor of future success--not intelligence, not past experience, but GRIT. Grit is the ability to stick it out, to work through the problem even though it is different.
Many students ask, "When am I going to use this?" about math problems. Though I hope you will have future careers that involve science, math, engineering, and technology (all of which use math as a foundation), some of you will make other choices. What you will use from this class (and all math classes) is a larger skill: grit. The ability to persevere is essential. This article elaborates on this concept.
