PROFESSIONAL I have lived and taught in Walla Walla, South Africa, the Mississippi Delta, Santa Cruz, Oakland, and Portland. As a Teach For America corps member, I served as an intermediate elementary teacher in rural Mississippi for three years. I quit teaching permanently (for the first time) to pursue a Ph.D. in Politics. Two years into the program, bored with long library hours and disappointed by esoteric discussions, I returned to the classroom at KIPP: Bridge College Prep in Oakland, CA, to teach middle school math. After five years of service, I quit teaching for good (for the second time). After flirtations with various professional degrees, I earned a teaching credential in Oregon and returned to the classroom again--this time for good. I have found my dream job in Corbett: I get to teach Algebra I, APUSH, and AP US Government, and coach Speech & Debate.
PERSONAL A perpetual victim of #nerdgirlproblems, I love reading (Harry Potter, Chaim Potok and Bryce Courtenay regularly rotate through my reread pile), comic books, vegetable gardening, internet meandering, and playing Settlers of Catan. My husband and I are raising two beautiful boys: Quill, a passionate 6 year old that loves bossing people around, cucumbers, and Pokemon, and Malcolm, our 3.5 year old smile-man with a passion for sand, wolves, and the color blue.
